Don't Touch This!

Just when you thought you've seen and heard it all... Surprise!

I had to write this post ever since seeing a commercial on television for Lysol's newest product - The Touch-less Hand Soap System. It is a hand-soap system that automatically dispenses soap without having to touch the dispenser. Sounds good doesn't it? Imagine not having to pump/touch the soap dispenser before you WASH YOUR HANDS?

Lysol claims there are literally millions of germs and bacteria on the manual pump mechanism of your soap dispenser. And, if you touch the dispenser prior to WASHING YOUR HANDS, you can pick up those yucky germs!

Oh my... that's scary. Can you imagine those horrible germs and bacteria being transferred to your hands right before YOU WASH THEM? Absolutely disgusting isn't it?

But, Lysol has a solution... The Touch-less Hand Soap System. All you have to do is place your hand beneath the pump and soap is automatically dispensed. You don't have to subject your already bacteria-laden hands with more nasty germs - because you don't have to touch the dispenser before WASHING YOUR HANDS.

That's right. You don't have to worry about WASHING away bacteria transferred to your hands from the soap pump!

But...

What difference does it make if I touch the dirty top of the soap pump dispenser before I WASH MY HANDS? The first thing you do after using the pump is soap-up your hands and WASH THEM!!

How is it then, that any bacteria/germs transferred from the pump would be any more detrimental to your health than what was already on your hands prior to WASHING?

Most people who are reading this post (or have seen the commercial) already know what a lame, useless, scam-of-a-product this is. Only those who have 'disposable income', aren't on a tight budget/fixed income, or who otherwise believe the product is a genuine safeguard to the prevention of illness would be fool enough to purchase it.

Lysol must not think consumers use any sort of "common sense" when purchasing products. I wonder if they realize how many people are sitting back scratching their heads in puzzlement of the product's so-called 'effectiveness' (or laughing their heads off as I do) when the advertisement appears on TV.

Then again, there are probably thousands of households that already own a Lysol Touch-less Soap Dispenser System instead of a regular pump-action soap dispenser all because they were led to believe the touch-less system is 'BETTER' or 'SAFER' than manual pumps.

Unbelievable isn't it? To me, that's just as bad as selling homemakers on Swiffer (Dusters, Brooms, Mops) Scrubbing Bubbles and Mr. Clean Erasers to name a few. It's amazing how many people actually purchase products they've seen advertised simply because they believe the products are better to use or will make the task easier to complete when, in fact, that is usually not the case.

As for Lysol's Touch-less Hand Soap System... Unless you think you can 'inhale' bacteria from the soap pump dispenser while you wash your hands, by all means, go out and buy yourself one. Meanwhile, I'll sit back here and save a few pennies using my manual soap-pump dispenser (standard broom for sweeping, wet cloth for dusting, regular sponge mop, etc.)
