Over or Under... that is the question!

In this post I am specifically speaking about the toilet paper roll.

Should the toilet tissue drape over the roll toward the user? (where the end is easier to find)
Or should it drape over the roll towards the wall? (where you are forced to finger-hunt its end)

Even though the means of dispensing (over or under) is a matter of choice, most people would probably choose the easier dispensing method (OVER) versus the more frustrating under-dispense method. Wouldn't you agree?

This may sound like a ridiculously trivial question. However, it is far from trivial in any respect to the Lady of the house, who is usually the one changing it. Don't get me wrong. I am sure some men change the toilet paper roll, but most do not.

I don't know how many times I have gone into our bathroom and found a new roll of toilet paper sitting on the vanity or edge of the bathtub, while the empty cardboard roll dangles from the dispenser. At other times I would even find the new roll sitting right on top of the used up roll itself! Living in a household with three adult men (husband and two sons), I failed to understand what the problem was that prevented these guys from changing the roll?

Sometimes I wondered if they'd sit there (doing their business) contemplating how the dispenser worked... Hmm... no, that can't be it. Certainly they knew how it came apart. Even a two-year-old knows that! What then?

Ahh, maybe they weren't sure which way the roll went back on? Could that be the reason they don't change it? At first that's what I thought, so one day I put a new roll of tissue on the dispenser and wrote on it: THIS END OUT. So, at least I was sure they knew how it went on the roller. I put the same message on it several times (to make sure everyone had a chance to read it). Low and behold, it worked. Well, it worked for a couple months at least. Then it was back to finding the roll on the vanity or tub edge again.

Over the years I have questioned this inability to change the toilet paper roll (even if it is put on the wrong way) with both my husband and sons. But, my inquiry is always met with a smirky grin or dumb-founded shrugging of the shoulders. I have since given up and come to the conclusion that it's got to be "A GUY THING!" that I simply don't understand and never will.

The way I see it, to men, changing the toilet paper roll is the same as cleaning out the toilet bowl... A chore best left up to a woman!
